The Japanese Government to Grant Aid Over 33 Million USD for the Three Projects in Cambodia

Phnom Penh: The Japanese government to grant aid of 33.90 million USD to Cambodia. On 21 March 2013, DPM Hor Namhong, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Kingdom of Cambodia, and H.E. Yuji KUMAMARU, Ambassador of Japan to the Kingdom of Cambodia, will sign the Exchange of Notes and Record of Discussions on the extension of Japanese Grand Aid to Cambodia up to the amount of 3.123 million Yen (33.90 million USD) for the implementation of three projects. 1. The implementation of the project for improvement of Sihanouk province referral hospital approximately worth 1.321 million Yen (14.33 million USD).  2. The implementation of the project for construction and rehabilitation of small hydropower plants in Rattanakiri province approximately worth 1.206 million Yen (13.10 million USD).   3. The project for improvement of facility and laboratory equipment in the Institute of Technology of Cambodia worth over 596 million Yen (6.47 million USD). (Kampuchea Tmey 19 March)

JMAS Grants US$410,000 Aid to CMAC for Mine Clearance in Ratanak Mundul

Japan’s JMAS granted US$414, 457.63 to Cambodian Mine Action Centre (CMAC) for 1-year mine clearance in 4 villages of Treng commune, Ratanak Mundul commune, Battambang from 09 September 2012 to 08 September 2013. The signing ceremony was held Sunday between Mr. Heng Ratana, PA to PM Hun Sen and CMAC Director General, and Mr. Tanigawa Yasuyaki, JMAS’s Representative to Cambodia. Japan Grants over 120 thousand for Community Maternal and Child Health Care

Japanese government awarded PH-Japan US$121,828 to support the community project of maternal and child health care in Kampong Thom (Phase II). The signing ceremony was held 25 June 2012 at Embassy of Japan by Masafumi Kuruki, Japanese Ambassador to Cambodia, and Ms. Kume Yumiko, PH-Japan’s representative. The Ambassador said the aid provision in health sector especially for the promotion of maternal and child health care is vitally important and highly appreciated in economic field since it is like the investment in child who will become the future leader of the society. Japanese government, he added, has made contribution to the enhancement of mother and child health care in Cambodia through health structure reform, human resource development and even the construction of Japan’s grant-aided maternal and child health care centre, which could help lower mortality rate of mother and child and better their health condition in recent years. This new aid project will further continue the reform activities, and 47,000 regional peoples are expected to be the beneficiaries of knowledge in maternal and child health care and hygienic issue. Japanese grant for water supplies and health care in Cambodia

Phnom Penh, March 30, 2012  –



Deputy Prime Minister H.E. Keat Chhon (Right), Minister of Economy and Finance and Mr. Suzuki Yasujiro (Left), president of Japanese International Cooperation Agency (JICA) sign here on Mar.29 nearly US$98 million grant agreement.

Under the agreement, more than US$93 million is used for the project of water supplies in Siem Reap province and nearly US$5 million for the project of material supplies for national hospital and referral hospitals in the cities and provinces across the country.

JAPAN PROVIDES MORE THAN TEN THOUSAND US DOLLAR FOR LITERACY EDUCATION IN CAMBODIA

Phnom Penh: The Government of Japan has agreed to provide US$17,570 to Cultural Aid Project for South East Asia for the Project for Supporting Literacy Education. 

Mr. Machida Tatsuya, Counsellor, Embassy of Japan to the Kingdom of Cambodia, and Dr. Penn Setharin, Representative of Cultural Aid Project for South East Asia, signed here on Tuesday, March 27, 2012 at the Embassy of Japan the Grant Contracts.

Around 3,000 children will enjoy learning to read and write through colorful reading books in Khmer, said Mr. Machida Tatsuya after the signing ceremony. In addition, he added, the mobile library of Cultural Aid Project for South East Asia has planned to go every week to different villages so that local students and villagers could read different books including picture books translated from Japanese.

For her part, Dr. Penn Setharin said the project of publishing reading books and translating picture books into Khmer is very important for both children and adults who start learning to write and read. This is a good method for literacy as well as morality education for children and the Cambodian people in contribution to the development of human resource in Cambodia, she said.

Mr. Masafumi Kuroki, sign in Phnom Penh today the Note Exchange of Concessional Loan from the Government of Japan with the amount of Y 7,161,000,000 or equivalent to US$ 86,000,000 to the Royal Government of Cambodia to implement the expansion project of the clean water system in Siem Reap province under the presidency of Cambodia’s Prime Minister Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen.

Japan Extends US$86 Million to Cambodia

AKP Phnom Penh, March 29, 2012 –

In response to the request from the Royal Government of Cambodia and with a view to strengthening friendly and cooperative relations between Japan and Cambodia, the Government of Japan has decided to extend 7,161 million Yen or US$86 million in concessional loan to Cambodia to support Siem Reap Water Supply Expansion Project.

The notes to these effects were exchanged here this morning between H.E. Hor Namhong, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation and H.E. Kuroki Masafumi, Ambassador of Japan to Cambodia under the presidency of Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen, Prime Minister of Cambodia 

This project will increase clean water supply to Siem Reap City by 60,000 cubic meters per day in order to respond to the increasing demand of water from residents and industries, said the Japanese ambassador.
This is the second project of water supply to Siem Reap by Japanese cooperation after the first project in 2004, he added.

This new project will take water from Tonle Sap Lake instead of underground water in order to avoid the possibility of negative impact on world heritage monuments of Angkor. Under the project, water intake facilities, a water treatment plant and the pipelines of 217 kilometers for water distribution will be constructed.

Japan today helped $86 million loan for clean water project in Siem Reap province, home of world heritage Angkor wat temple and world class tourism destination in the Kingdom of Cambodia.

“The project will help offer clean water for the provincial town,” officials said, adding that “The project will stop pumping water from underground, which affected the water system under ancient temples”. The loan Agreement was inked by deputy prime minister and foreign minister H.E. Hor Namhong and Japanese ambassador u Masafumi Kuroki, Japanese ambassador to Cambodia, under witness of Samdech PM Hun Sen. the loan will contribute to expanding capacity of clean water for 60,000 cubic meter per day.

After years of criticism were made of pumping water from underground, and it could damage the ancient temple. Now clean water project was set up and it will transmit water from Tonle Sap for residents in the provincial town, which is high demand for clean water because the booming of hotels and guest house, population growth at the area. Last year, Angkor wat attracted over 1.6 million foreign tourists.

And last year, the flooding also hit the province, and some temples and road to the temples were inundated. Cambodian authorities also sent helicopter to rescue the tourists who stuck at the temples due to flooding.

Japan’s Grant Assistance to Kampong Cham’s Referral Hospital

The Government of Japan has agreed to provide a total of US$92,290 to Cheung Prey-Batheay Operational District for the Project for Installing Medical Equipment for Operating Room in Cheung Prey Referral Hospital in Kampong Cham province.

The Grant Contract was signed here last Friday at the Embassy of Japan by Mr. Kawamura Hiroshi, Deputy Chief of Mission/Minister, Embassy of Japan to Cambodia, and Mr. Hoeung Thol, Director of Cheung Prey-Batheay Operational District.

Japan Grants over US$12 million for Purchasing Machineries and Medical Equipments

            Japanese government has decided to provide over US$12 million in grant aid to Cambodia to purchase machineries and medical equipments. The signing ceremony was done at the ministry of foreign affairs yesterday between Mr. Ouch Borith, Secretary of State and Mr. Kuroki Masafumi, Japanese Ambassador to Cambodia. Some US$7.5 million (600 million Yens) are given to Cambodian government to purchase construction equipments for the restoration of the roads damaged by the floods in 2011 as well as the maintenance of the road network. The rest (4.7 million USD equal to 347 million Yens) is used for the improvement of the quality of healthcare services through the purchase of medical equipments for 4 National Hospitals and 17 Municipal and Provincial Referral Hospitals. Japan’s Aid of nearly US$100 Thousand for Pursat’s Irrigation System Improvement Project

            Japanese government has granted $US99, 221 to water resources and meteorology department in Pursat for the irrigation improvement projects. The signing ceremony was held between Hiroshi Kawamura, Chargé d’Affairs of Japan Embassy to Cambodia and Mr. Keo Vey, Director of water resources and meteorology department, on 20 March 2012 at the Embassy. The aid will help the department to repair canal with total length of 2,100 meters and build drainage channels to pump water into rice field in four places, water block constructions in two places and another canal of 1,050 meters.
