The Public Works and Transportation Ministry yesterday signed a contract with South Korea’s Dohwa Engineering Company to develop a multi-million dollar water treatment facility in Kandal province’s Takhmao city.
Public Works and Transportation Minister Sun Chanthol yesterday said the funding came from the central bank of South Korea with a $63 million budget.
Mr Chanthol noted that the new water treatment facility will be able to process 7,600 cubic metres of water per day.
“It will have ten pumping stations, which could pump 29,952 cubic metres of water per day,” he said. “The budget will also cover the construction of a 16.3 kilometre drainage network and the repair of existing pumping stations, as well.”
“A fully-functioning treatment facility will be able to connect with people’s homes,” he added. “This will also promote clean environment and prevent flooding.”
In February, the Kingdom’s first wastewater plant was built in Phnom Penh’s Dangkor district, with a $27 million aid package from the Japan International Cooperation Agency.
The plant in Phnom Penh is expected to commence operations next year.
