The construction of a portion of the National Road No. 5 from Battambang to Serey Sophorn in Banteay Meanchey province with a total length of 84.74 kilometers under the ODA loan from the Government of Japan will takes 36 months, starting in February 2017 and is scheduled to be completed in March 2020. According to Senior Minister and Minister of Public Works and Transport H.E. Sun Chanthol, the construction, which is part of the National Road No. 5 Improvement Project, includes also the construction of two bypasses of more than 33 kilometers and would cost about US$185 million. National Road No. 5 is a major national highway in Cambodia. It links Phnom Penh capital to the provinces of Kampong Chhnang, Pursat, Battambang, and Banteay Meanchey, and to Thailand’s border.
