Siem Reap: Fifty
(50) Sets of Solar-Powered Streetlights and one place of playground were
provided by KOICA and Asiana Airlines to APSARA Authority under the cooperation
between APSARA Authority, KOICA and Asiana Airlines. The hand-over ceremony was
held at Run-Taek commune, Bantheaysrey district of Siem Reap province under the
presidency of H.E. Bun Narith, Director General of APSARA Authority, Dr. Shin
Euicheol, Representative of KOICA Cambodia Office and Mr. Cho Kyu Yung, Vice
President of Asiana Airlines.
H.E. Bun Narith, Director General of APSARA Authority,
reminded that within the cooperation framework between APSARA Authority and
KOICA for the purpose of better preserving and developing the Angkor site, the Asiana
Airlines, KOICA and APSARA Authority signed, on August 19, 2010, the Memorandum
of Understanding (MoU) on the provision of fifty (50) sets of solar-powered
streetlights to APSARA Authority. During 2010-2011, Asisna Airlines and KOICA
provided APSARA Authority thirty four (34) solar-powered streetlights, which
were erected at the following locations: 1 near Krous Primary School, 4 at the
Spean Neak bridge, 6 along the Svay Tom road, 7 along the West bypass road, 2
at the beginning of the road in front of the Fourth Regional Military Station,
3 at the junction of the Pradak road, nad 11 in the Run-Taek eco-village. 2012
alone, KOICA and Asiana Airlines decided to provide more seventeen (17) solar-powered
streetlights and one (1) place of playground to APSARA Authority. H.E. Bun
Narith affirmed that these achievements could be viewed as invaluable gifts for
the people in Run-Taek eco-village as well as for the people in Siem Reap
province. These gifts also reflected a good culture of sharing of KOICA and
Asiana Airlines, whose donation would importantly contribute to the sustainable
development of Angkor-Siem Reap regi0n in line with strategies laid by the
Royal Government of Cambodia (RGC) under the visionary leadership of Samdech
Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo HUN SEN, the Prime Minister of the Cambodia. H.E.
Bun Narith also thanked KOICA and Asiana Airlines for these priceless
contributions the betterment of the Angkor-Siem Reap region as well as to improve
the living condition of the people.

Cambodia Office, said that Asiana Airlines was working closely with KOICA and
APSRA Authority to install solar-powered streetlights near the Angkor Wat
temple complex as part of its efforts to help preserve the side and to improve
safety for national and international tourists. He also added that with strong
commitment from Korean government, the annual volume of KOICA’s grant aid to
Cambodia had steadily increased, surpassing 18 million US dollars in 2012.
KOICA’s grant aid performance to Cambodia would be approximately more than 83
million USD from 1991 up to last year, providing 34 projects to Cambodia
covering 4 sectoral priorities including Education, Health, Infrastructure, and
Agriculture & Rural Development. Furthermore, KOICA had strengthened
focused efforts to work together for the socio-economic development of Cambodia
in harmony with its rectangular strategy and National Strategic Development
Plan (NSDP) for the enhancement of Aid Effectiveness. It was a great pleasure
for the Korean government and people to have contributed to the socio-economic
development of Cambodia, which had been effectively achieved under the eminent
and visionary leadership of H.E. Samdech Prime Minister Hun Sen, he added. He also reiterated Korea’s strong commitment
to the socio-economic development of Cambodia and the prosperity of Cambodian people.
