Japan Provides US$12.2-Million Grant Aid to Cambodia
AKP Phnom Penh, March 20, 2012 –
The Government of Japan has decided to provide some US$12.2 million in grant aid to Cambodia for the rehabilitation of infrastructure damaged by the devastating floods last year and the improvement of medical equipments.
The Notes for this grant aid were exchanged here today between H.E. Ouch Borith, Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, and H.E. Masafumi Kuroki, Japanese Ambassador to Cambodia.
Some US$7.5 million of the total amount will be provided to the Royal Government of Cambodia to purchase construction equipment for the restoration of the roads damaged by the floods in 2011 as well as the maintenance of the road network, H.E. Ambassador said on the occasion.
The rest will be used for the improvement of the quality of healthcare services through provision of medial equipment to 4 National Hospitals and 17 Municipal and Provincial Referral Hospitals, he added.
The Japanese ambassador was convinced that this grant aid will contribute to improving the socio-economic development in Cambodia and to strengthening the ties of friendship between Cambodia and Japan.
For his part, H.E. Ouch Borith expressed profound thanks to the Japanese government and people for this humanitarian assistance.
