Handover Ceremony of the Result of Project on the Production of the National Base Map and the Establishment of the Master Plan of National Spatial Data Infrastructure in Cambodia

Phnom Penh: In the morning of February 16, 2012 at the office of the Ministry of Land Management, Urban Planning and Construction, there was a Handover Ceremony of the Result of Project on the Production of the National Base Map and the Establishment of the Master Plan of National Spatial Data Infrastructure in Cambodia from the Government of the Republic of Korea through Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) under the presiding-over by H.E. Im Chhun Lim, Senior Minister, Minister of Ministry of Land Management, Urban Planning and Construction, and Dr. Shin Euicheol, Representative of KOICA Cambodia Office, and with the participation of other national and international guests.

Dr. Shin Euicheol, Representative of KOICA Cambodia Office, said that the Handover Ceremony of the Result of Project on the Production of the National Base Map and the Establishment of the Master Plan of National Spatial Data Infrastructure in Cambodia is KOICA’s Grant Aid implemented from 2010 with the total budget of 2.5 million USD.

Dr. Shin Euicheol continued that the produced National Base Map is an integrated dataset of geospatial information that is the consensus standard for industrial development plans such as cartography, road, dam, airport construction, building harbor, and the National Base Map and the NSDI Master Plan are the valuable outputs coming from the effort and close cooperation among all stakeholders.
He added that the most accurate and standard National Base Maps were produced for Phnom-Penh, and attractive sightseeing cities of Siem-Reap, and Sihanoukville.

During the ceremony, H.E. Minister Im Chhun Lim appraised the Production of the National Base Map and the Establishment of the Master Plan of National Spatial Data Infrastructure in Cambodia by saying that it is another fruitful result of the relationship between the Kingdom of Cambodia and the Republic of Korea as well as between MLMUPC and KOICA as counterpart.

He added that this fourth project’s output also includes the document of the Master of Plan of National Spatial Data Infrastructure which is the foundation for improving the quality and the efficiency of the establishment and use of geographical data to support the development in many sectors like Land Management and Administration, Land Use Planning, Land Distribution, National Resources Management, Natural Disaster Reduction and prevention as well as in socio-economic development of Cambodia.
