AKP Phnom Penh, January 27, 2012 –
Ten young officials from the National Committee for Maritime Security (NCMS) Secretariat will leave for Japan on Jan. 28, 2012 under the JENESYS (Japan-East Asia Network of Exchange for Students and Youths) Program for eight days, according to a press release from the Embassy of Japan issued today.
During their stay in Japan, NCMS officials will be given lectures about organization, functions, and maritime security measures of the Japan Coast Guard (JCG), said the press release, adding that NCMS officials will visit the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport, and Tourism for lecture on port security policy as well as the Ministry of Defense for lecture on maritime defense policy.
They will also visit facilities related to maritime security in Japan, it said.
NCMS was established in December 2009 to strengthen maritime security and stability, and protect offshore national interests of Cambodia. Since then, NCMS has been making their efforts to formulate the policy, prepare organizational structure, and build capacity of the staff in order to tackle more effectively with issues such as illegal fishing, human and drug trafficking, smuggling, terrorism, sea robberies, environment destruction, etc.
The Government of Japan decided to support the efforts of the NCMS by inviting young NCMS Secretariat officials to Japan through JENESYS Program. It is expected that this program will offer an opportunity for NCMS officials to deepen their professional knowledge through experts’ lectures and visitation to various institutions in the field of maritime security in Japan.
