Japan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has pledged to extend JPY 7,161,000,000 (roughly equivalent to US$92 million) in loan to the Royal Government of Cambodia to implement Siem Reap water supply expansion project. According to the press release of Japan embassy on 27 December, the project aims at expanding the water supply system in Siem Reap to produce 60,000 m³ of water per day by constructing water intake facilities from the Tonle Sap, a water treatment plant and transmission and distribution pipelines of 217 km. Human resource development for the operation and maintenance of the water supply system will also be provided to Siem Reap Water Supply Authority. (Rasmei Kam.)
