KOICA to sign the $7.45 million project for education sector

Korea International Cooperation Agency, known as KOICA, will sign an agreement with the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport of the Kingdom of Cambodia in the afternoon of December 02, 2010 to kick off the construction activities of the $7.45 million project called the Project for the Establishment of a Human Resources Development Center in Cambodia. The agreement will be signed at the Ministry by H.E. Im Sethy, Minister of the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport, and Dr. Shin Euicheol, Representative of KOICA Office in Cambodia with the honorable participation of Korean Ambassador to Cambodia H.E. Chang Ho-Jin.

The project was initiated by Cambodian side with the objective to strengthen capacity building of human resources development in Cambodia by providing human resources development program in order to reinforce the professional knowledge of professors and students at Royal University of Phnom Penh, and by improving the capacity of related government officials, teachers and instructors of relevant organizations. For 5 years from 2010 to 2014, the project was planned to build a well-equipped human resources development center to be named Cambodia-Korea Cooperation Center (CKCC) in the premise of RUPP, and to establish an education program which includes Information Technology, vocational training, and Korean language education for Cambodian students.

To ensure sustainability, effort will be put on the operation and management of the center during and after the construction phase by dispatching Korean experts to the center and inviting related Cambodian officials to overseas training in the Republic of Korea.  Moreover, a joint committee will be established to assist the center’s operation during and after project implementation.

In addition, this project is expected to contribute to economic development of Cambodia though human resources development, and promote mutual understanding between the two countries. Moreover, if the project is successfully implemented, it will be used as a good model for further human resource development for Cambodia.
