Siem Reap: bypass in the temple area was equipped Korean Solar Streetlights (Photo).


Senior official of APSARA Authority said that the government of the Republic of Korea is playing a leading role in providing grant aid on road infrastructure which is an important vein to link from one temple to another in the Angkor Park that is the world famous heritage.


Mr. Bun Narith, Director General of APSARA Authority, said that Korean grant aid on the road infrastructure in Angkor Park area is the most leading in the last few years in sharing protection and raising the value of the Siem Reap-Angkor area to be betterment and immortality.


As said in at the Inauguration Ceremony of Solar Streetlight which is the aid of the ASIANA Airline Company of the Republic of Korea that was held in August 19, 2010, Mr. Bun Narith said that between 2006 and 2008, the Republic of Korea provided grant aid in total amount of 5.9 million USD to construct lateritic road and then tarred on two roads. The first line is the bypass of Angkor at the west (4.8 km length & 8 ms wide) to link from National Road Nº 6 next to Krous Primary School to the tarred road in front of Angkor Wat temple near the former Military Head Quarter IV. The second line is the bypass of East Angkor Wat temple (10.4 km length and 8 ms wide) to link from National Road Nº 6 next to Svay Thom market to the junction of PADAK village.


He added that beside these two roads, the Republic of Korea decided to provide more grant aid in the total amount about 10 million USD to construct tarred road about 20.8 km to link with the above two roads in order to become the belt-road surrounding the Angkor area. This project is being studied about constructing technique and will be finished in 2013.


Mr. Bun Narith added that in order to protect the environment around Angkor and share in the above immense achievements, ASIANA Airline Company of the Republic of Korea through the Korea International Cooperation Agency decide to provide solar streetlights in Angkor Park area especially along the Cambodia-Korea Friendship Road.


These solar streetlights will be provided from 5~7 every year till 50 Solar Streetlights in accordance to the Signing Agreement of Memorandum of Understanding. In the first phase, ASIANA Airline Company provided 16 solar streetlights which were installed in the important points of the Angkor Park area.


Mr. Sou Phirin, Siem Reap Governor, said at the Inauguration Ceremony of Solar Streetlights which is the grant aid of the ASIANA Airline Company and KOICA that the Immense grant aid of the Republic of Korea in rehabilitation of the road infrastructure in Angkor Park area is the main push power in making the betterment of the Angkor Resort and also share in strengthening protection and raise the value of Angkor to become more picturesque and suitable as World Heritage site.


Mr. Sou Phirin added that donation from our development partner especially the Republic of Korea in protection, repairing and conservation the cultural and natural resort of Angkor is very important to attract tourists to visit Cambodia.


Mr. Park Dae-won, President of KOICA said that the grant aid of the road infrastructure in the Angkor area is the contribution of KOICA with destination of transparency that is the expectation, solidarity and humanity based on good cooperation between our two countries.


Mr. Park Dae-won added that all donations will raise the glorious patrimony of Cambodia as well as our friendship which is the source of prosperity of economy between our countries stronger.
