APSARA Authority Receives 50 Solar Streetlights from South Korea

Siem Reap: Signing Ceremony of MOU, the Republic of Korea provides 50 Solar Streetlights to APSARA Authority (Photo).

The agreement of Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) of 50 Solar Streetlights was signed between H.E. Bun Narith, Director General of APSARA Authority (Receiver) and ASIANA Airline Company and the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) of the Republic of South Korea (Providers) on Saturday morning, August 19, 2010 at Krous Hun Sen Secondary School, Sangkat Svay Dong Kum, Siem Reap City, Siem Reap Province.

The above agreement signing ceremony took placed after the Inauguration Ceremony of 16 Solar Streetlights (one solar streetlight there are 50 small lights). These solar streetlights were installed in front of Hun Sen Krous Secondary School, Sankat Svay Dong Kum, Siem Reap City-Province along the National Road Nº 6. This ceremony was presided over by H.E. Sou Phirin, Siem Reap Governor and the Deputy Director of APSARA Authority Board, and H.E. Park Dae-won, President of KOICA, Mr. Young Doo Yoon, Executive Director of ASIANA Airline and Mr. Hong Jung Wook, Korean parliament member.

Mr. Bun Narith, Director General of APSARA Authority said that this is the 16th Streetlight installed in the public area; one solar streetlight was installed in front of Hun Sen Krous Secondary School, four solar streetlights were installed near the Dragon Bridge, 5 streetlights were installed in the south of Svay Thom market and the other 5 streetlights are located in the Run Ta Ek Natural Development Zone.

Mr. Bun Narith indicated that, in general, Solar Streetlights were provided by ASIANA Airline Company and the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) of the Republic of Korea from 5 to 7 every year and the rest streetlight will keep providing to reach 50 streetlights in the future.

He added that in the past, APSARA Authority of the Kingdom of Cambodia received aid from the Republic of Korea such as road infrastructure in Angkor Park. In 2006, South Korea provided two lines of lateritic roads; the first line is the bypass of West Angkor (4.8 km length & 8 ms wide) to link between the National Road Nº 6 next to Hun Sen Krous Primary School and road in front of Angkor Wat near the former Military Head Quarter IV. The second line is the bypass of East Angkor Wat temple (10.4 km length and 8 ms wide) to link from National Road Nº 6 next to Svay Thom market to the conjunction of PADAK village with total amount of 1.6 million USD. After finishing these two lateritic road projects, in 2008 the Republic of Korea helped to tar on these two line lateritic roads with total amount of 4.3 million USD and these two roads were inaugurated in May 5, 2009 under the presidency of H.E. SOk AN, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of the Council of Ministers and Director of APSARA Authority.

In 2010, Korean side kept providing grant aid about 10 million USD for constructing tarred road (20.8 km length) to link with the above two roads in order to become the belt-road surrounding the Angkor area. This project is being studied about constructing technique and will be finished in 2013.

Mr. Sou Phirin, Siem Reap Governor, said that the new achievement that we received at this time is 16 streetlights which were operated by solar power. These solar streetlights will push scenery and view of Angkor resort to become more picturesque and more suitable as World Heritage site.

With the following donations of the Republic of Korea, Mr. Sou Phirin, on be half of civil servants, police armed force, and the people of Siem Reap province, would like express sincere gratitude to the government of the Republic of Korea and the people of Korea which always raised the development in Cambodia.
