Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Finance and Economy (MEF) Keat Chhun cosigned a loan agreement with President of Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) Suzuki Yasujiro amount for ¥7,176 million to but use in developing Cambodia’s Sihanoukville Port, an MEF official said on August 21. “The purposes of projects are: to rebuild a new Cambodia International Sihanouk Port, including infrastructure, warehouses, porting yard,” the officer said, adding that the planning and bidding stages would soon be underway. The annual interest will be 0.01 percent on the ¥7,176 million and is “a part of Japanese supporting in official relationship between Cambodian government and JICA for developing the country,” the MEF source added.
Under the project’s statue, the 40-year term has to the first 10 years interest-free. the Cambodian government has said it will focus on international ports, business development, manufacturing, especially in the so-called “Infrastructure Globalization sector,” he continued.
JICA claimed that “The purpose of this project to intent to boost Cambodia to improve the areas of the Cambodian sea, including resort areas.”
