Contracts for Major Road Construction Projects Based on Money from China Signed

“Phnom Penh: Contracts for two projects to construct major roads were signed late last week at Le Royal Hotel by the Minister of Public Works and Transport and by representatives of Chinese companies responsible for these projects. Also, the Chinese ambassador to Cambodia attended this event.


“Undersecretary of state of the Ministry of Public Works and Transport and the ministries cabinet chief , Mr. Slout Sambour, said that the signing ceremony was conducted for loans from the government of the People’s Republic of China and these projects will be implemented by the Shanghai Construction (Group) General Company and monitored by [the construction supervision company] Guangzhou Wanan company the implementation will take 45 months and cost approximately US$66.8 million, to restore 128 km of National Road 62 from Kompong Thom to Tbaeng Meanchey [Preah Vihear]; for 128 km by paving the road with two layers, with a width of 9 meters, where 7 meters will be paved, including 23 bridges; 5,628 km of Road 8-1 from K98+600 to the Cambodian – Vietnamese border; and Road 8-2 from National Road 8 (K105+544) [from Neak Leung on National Highway 1 to Thnal Totoung on National Highway 7 near Kompong Cham town] at a total length of 18.589 km by paving the road with AC quality [?]. It also includes a contract, based on a loan from the government of the People’s Republic of China to restore National Road 3762 from Sen Monorum [Mondolkiri] to Dac Dam on the Cambodian-Vietnamese border for 16.45 km which will be implemented by a Chinese road and bridge corporation with Guangzhou Wanan as a construction monitoring company. The construction will take 27 months and approximately US$14.88 million will be spent.


“During that ceremony, Mr. Tram Iv Tek expressed deep gratitude towards the Chinese ambassador in the Kingdom of Cambodia, expressing the gratitude of the Royal Government and the Cambodian people toward the government of the People’s Republic of China, a great and long term close friend and a major development partner of Cambodia, and towards the different construction companies that help repair, restore, and develop infrastructure in order to improve transport and travel to support and encourage commerce, tourism, and public and social services, and to support economic growth and the improved living standard of Cambodian people through grant aid and loans with low interest rates.”

    Do you know any agency or foundation who may be interested in providing a loan for such projects?
