On 7 December 2006, His Excellency Deputy Prime Minister HOR Namhong, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation met with Mr. SHIN Jang-bum, President of Korea International Cooperation Agency-KOICA, who was visiting Cambodia from 6 to 10 December 2006.

In the Meeting, His Excellency Deputy Prime Minister praised the recent state visit of His Excellency Roh Moo-hyun, President of the Republic of Korea to Cambodia.

"Cambodian people applauded the visit. The relations between the two countries have been further developed even though their diplomatic ties have just reached 10 years old," he said.  In 2005, there were 200. 000 tourists from the Republic of Korea to visit Cambodia, thanks to the direct flight between Seoul of Korea and Siem Reap of Cambodia, he added. In this context, His Excellency Deputy Prime Minister urged the Korean investors to consider investing in Cambodia especially in hotels and restaurants for tourist services.

His Excellency Deputy Prime Minister also briefed his guest of the recent development that took place in Cambodia, especially in economic field and, the Rectangular Policies of the Royal Government of Cambodia. He is convinced that Cambodia will have a bright future, thanks to the oil and mine dealing, he said.

In the meantime, His Excellency Deputy Prime Minister informed  Mr. SHIN Jang-bum of the Development of the Triangle areas among Cambodia-Lao-Vietnam, supported by Japan, the East Asia Summit and the future establishment of an East Asia Community. He has also proposed that the Commemorative Summit for the 10th Anniversary of the ASEAN-ROK Dialogue Partner be held in Seoul next year.

Mr. SHIN Jang-bum told His Excellency Deputy Prime Minister that in Siem Reap, he visited Angkor-Kyongyu Exhibition and Siem Reap by pass-road funded by KOICA. By so doing, he was very pleased to see the development in the bilateral relations and cooperation between Cambodia and ROK. " ROK needs do more to further enhance them, he said. ROK wished to see more Cambodian officials be trained in the Republic of Korea," he added.

In reply, His Excellency Deputy Prime Minister hailed the ROK assistance rendered to Cambodia by saying " ROK assistance projects in Cambodia are small in size but are very crucial". "The TAMORK Hydro-power project and Pediatric Hospital could be set as examples," he said. As Cambodia is an agricultural country, Cambodia needs more canal systems, he added.

Mr. SHIN Jang-bum reaffirmed that ROK will positively consider the requests made by Cambodia for grant aid funded projects and will continue to assist and support the priority projects of Cambodia.
