Phnom Penh: The biggest 52-bed eye hospital which is the Korea’s grant aid is to be built at Preah Ang Duong hospital in 2012 with the total budget of 5.5 million USD.
In the evening of December 02, 2011 at the office of the Ministry of Health, there was a signing of the Record of Discussion of the project for the Establishment of Eye Hospital in Preah Angduong hospital. The R/D was signed by H.E. MAM Bunheng, Minister of Ministry of Health, and Dr. Shin Euicheol, Representative of KOICA in Cambodia, under the presidencies of H.E. Yim Chay Ly, Deputy Prime Minister, and H.E. Chang Ho Jin, Korean Ambassador to Cambodia.
According to the news release issued on December 02, 2011, the project will be implemented for 3 years from 2011 to 2013 with the total budget of 5.5 million USD. Other 2 million USD for building up the capacity the hospital to become a Cambodia’s eye care center will be done by the signing of MoU between MoH and Kim’s Eye Hospital of the Republic of Korea.
There have been 6 health-related projects in cooperation between the Kingdom of Cambodia and Korea International Cooperation Agency from 2002 including this project. The previous 5 projects are totally worth 20.2 million USD.
H.E. Dr. MAM Bunheng said that the development of this eye hospital in Preah Angduong Hospital is the attempt to develop the capacity of health services of the hospital to become an eye care center in Cambodia including providing of equipment and trainings to doctors and nurses to strengthen health sector in Cambodia.
H.E. Minister continued that KOICA’s aid will help build up capacity and provide modern equipment for eye treatment and strengthen general eye care services to the people in Phnom Penh and other provinces around Phnom Penh city in line with the National Strategy for Blindness Prevention.
H.E. Minister added that he hope that Preah Angduong Hospital will plays an important role not only for eye treatment service for the people, but it will be a very important center for Cambodia.
H.E. Minister hopes that the Government of the Republic of Korea will continue to provide humanitarian support to Cambodia to strengthen health sector which will benefit vulnerable women and children who are in needs of those support.
