Phnom Penh: The Republic of Korea through the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) decided to provide $ 6 Million grant for Railway Master Plan and Road Safety.
According to the Press Release of the Korean International Cooperation Agency that the DAP News receiving via electronic mail on Wednesday, June 15, 2011 revealed that on 17th of June 2011 at 15:00, the Korean international Cooperation Agency of the Republic of Korea and the Ministry of Public Works and Transport will sign the first two cooperation projects at the Office of the Ministry of Public Works and Transport between H.E. Tauch Chankosal, Secretary of State of the Ministry of Public Works and Transport and Dr. Shin Eui-cheol, Resident Representative of KOICA Cambodia Office.
The press release also stated that the two cooperation projects were “Master Plan for Railway Network Development in Cambodia” and “Road Safety Furniture and Safety Measures for NR No.3 and 48” with the total estimated budget of $6 million which was the grant aid from the Government of the Republic of Korea.
The same source also stated that the project of “Master Plan for Railway Network Development in Cambodia” was designed to accelerate economic growth in Cambodia through the establishment of master plan for railway network and feasibility study, to assist efficient and systematic development of national railway network of Cambodia, and to transfer Korea’s policy and technology related to railway network to Cambodia, while the objectives of “Road Safety Furniture and Safety Measures for NR No.3 and 48” are to decrease the number of traffic accident through road safety furniture and safety measures for National Road No.3 and National Road 48,to review the existing road safety furniture including the blackspots and to plan additional installation in order to improve road safety and to promote road efficiency on Asian highways through NR No.3 and NR No.48, and to improve the capacity of human resources of Ministry of Public Works and Transport.
Since 1991, the total volume of KOICA’s grant aid to the Kingdom of Cambodia has been scaling up to $ 68 million, covering a wide range of areas such as infrastructure, agriculture & rural development, health, education sectors as well as cross-cutting sectors such as environment, democracy, civil society, gender, public administration, etc including “good governance” which is the core value of the Rectangular Strategy.
