Phnom Penh: H.E. Tram Iv Tek, Minister of the Ministry of Public Works and Transport, said that the Republic of Korea assisted to develop Cambodia many sectors such as Trades, Industry, Tourism, Health, Education, Information technology and especially in the Public works and transport sector. Therefore, the Republic of Korea was one of the best development partners of the Cambodia, he said at the signing ceremony on June 17, 2011.
The Ministry of Public Works and Transport signed the Record of Discussions of two projects: “The Project for Master Plan for Railway Network Development in Cambodia” and “The Project for Road Safety Equipment & Materials and Safety Measures for National Road No. 3 and National Road No. 48” last Friday, June 17, 2011 at the Office of the Ministry of Public Works and Transport between H.E. Tauch Chankosal, Secretary of State of the Ministry of Public Works and Transport and Dr. Shin Eui-cheol, Resident Representative of KOICA Cambodia Office.
In the signed Record of Discussions, it was stated the total estimated budget of $6 million which was the Grant Aid of the Government of the Republic of Korea to the Royal Government of Cambodia for two sectors, first (1st) was the Project for the Development of Railway Master Plan including the study for Master Plan for the development of the railway in Cambodia for the period from the year 2011 to 2040, dispatching ten (10) officials from Railway Department to have short-term training programs for two (2) weeks in Korea and three (3) officials for three (3) months.
Second (2nd ) the Project for the assistance in providing road equipment & materials and Safety Measures for National Road No. 3 and National Road No. 48 for the period of three (3) years from 2011 to 2013 including the following implementation:
1- Black spots study and analysis,
2- Providing necessary road safety equipment, materials and measures,
3- Strengthen road traffic safety management through assistances from Korean Experts as well as dispatching relevant officials of the Ministry of Public Works and Transport to have short-term training programs in the Republic of Korea.
H.E. Tram Iv Tek said that the assistances of infrastructure sector was immediately reflecting the urgent requirements and policy of the Royal Government of Cambodia for encouraging the effectiveness, efficiency and sustainability in land transport in Cambodia as well as in the region.
Since 1991, the total volume of KOICA’s grant aid to the Kingdom of Cambodia has been scaling up to $ 68 million, covering a wide range of areas such as infrastructure, agriculture & rural development, health, education sectors as well as cross-cutting sectors such as environment, democracy, civil society, gender, public administration, etc including “good governance” which was the core value of the Rectangular Strategy of the Royal Government of Cambodia.
