According to the KOICA press release, dated on October 11, 2010, revealed that the Ministry of Rural Development launched a Seminar on the implementation of the Integrated Rural Development Project in Krouch Chhmar district, Kampong Cham province on Wednesday, October 6, 2010, under the presidency of H.E. Chea Sophara, Minister of the Ministry of Rural Development with the participation of Dr. Shin Eui Cheol, Representative of KOICA Cambodia Office, some KOICA delegates and other government officials of the Ministry of Rural Development.
The objective of the seminar focuses on the propagation of the implementation of the Integrated Rural Development in Krouch Chhmar district, Kampong Cham province which is being carried out for twenty four months, starting from April 2010. Secondly is to reveal the participants about the general situation of the project site, and thirdly, is to get recommendation and good experience from the participants.
To participate in the poverty alleviation of the local people, KOICA, a government agency for grant aid programs to Cambodia, is supporting the Ministry of Rural Development with the strategic plan to implement the integrated rural development program in the communities, villages, communes, districts and provinces in the whole country.
H.E. Chea Sophara, Minister of the Ministry of Rural Development, said that the implementation of the project on the Integrated Rural Development in Krouch Chhmar district, Kapmong Cham province provides immense benefits to the local people such as the rehabilitation of the irrigation system, water reservoir, transportation infrastructure, the introducing of new agricultural technology, health and sanitation, and the upgrading of educational system in the local community.
Dr. Shin Eui Cheol, Representative of KOICA Cambodia Office, said that the project in Krouch Chhmar enhances the capacity of national and provincial officials to plan, implement, monitor and evaluate other rural development projects. Dr. Shin added that this project reaches the invitation of government officials who are associated with the project to train in the Republic of Korea on the training course “Integrated Rural Community Development”.
Be reminded that, through the Ministry of Rural Development, the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) provided “The Project for Rural Development in Kampong Cham” in 2006, “The Project fro the Formulation of Rural Development Policy and Strategy” in 2007, and “KOICA-JICA Joint Project on the Construction of Irrigation and Rural Development in Kampong Cham” in 2009. Moreover, many other rural development-related projects have been provided through other line-ministries to develop rural physical infrastructures. All these projects are playing an important role in supporting the policy program of the royal government in poverty alleviation strategy, and achieving the Cambodia Millennium Development Goal in 2015.
