KOICA Provides US$ 2,500,000.00 to the ministry of rural dvelopment

Phnom Penh: Resident Representative of KOICA to Cambodia will sign an agreement with the Ministry of Rural Development for the Integration Rural Development Project. KOICA has agreed to provide a total of US$ 2,500,000 for this project.
For the above project, the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) will sign on the grant contracts with the Ministry of Rural Development on 06 April, 2010.
According the press release of KOICA which was published on 31 March 2010, the signing ceremony between KOICA and Ministry of Rural Development will preside over by H.E. Chea Sophara, Minister of the Ministry of Rural Development and Mr. Kim Byung-gwan, Resident Representative of KOICA Cambodia office with some KOICA delegation of the Implementation Survey team and other government officials of the Ministry of Rural Development.
Concerning above grant aid, Mr. Hort Sroeu, program officer of KOICA told DAP Media Center that there were four (4) main objectives of this project. First objective was to implement a pilot for the integrated rural development in three villages, Krouch Chhmar District, Kampong Cham Province.
Mr. Hort Sroeu went on to say that the second objective was to suggest a model case and methods to alleviate poverty in the rural area in Cambodia. The third objective was to enhance the capacity of the Central and Local Government to plan, administrate, implement, monitor and evaluate the rural development project. Fourth objective was to introduce and apply new agricultural technology to the Project Site in order to develop new income sources and generate incomes.
The same officer confirmed that “this project will implement for two years”.
Please be reminded that until now the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) provided grant aid to Cambodia over US$ 50 million. Each project was mainly focused on rural development and social sectors.
Recently, KOICA provided grant aid on “the Feasibility Study on the Construction of the Sanitary Waste Landfill in Siem Reap” to improve the living conditions of Cambodian people and contribute to mitigating the environmental waste pollution by constructing a sanitary waste landfill.
Be noticed that, so far, Cambodia was closely cooperated by the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) to urge Cambodia on development sector to be better.
