KOICA Provides US$ 250,000 for a Sanitation Waste Landfill in Siem Reap

Phnom Penh: The Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) provided US$ 250,000 for a sanitation waste landfill in Siem Reap last week.
Mr. Hort Sroeu, Program officer of KOICA Cambodia Office told DAP that “KOICA has signed an agreement with the Ministry of Environment of Cambodia to provide US$ 250,000 to the Ministry of Environment of Cambodia for a sanitation waste landfill in Siem Reap”. He also informed that the project was in Rom Chek commune of Batheay Srey district. After the construction of that landfill there will be a lot of changes in that area especially around the landfill site such as the formatting of the village/building of houses/increase number of residents/foundation of the school.
According to the press release which was released on 5 March 2010 that the amount of US$ 250,000 was the grant aid of the Korean government through the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA). Press release also mentioned that the project will conduct an inventory survey on the sources, volume of generation, collection and/or treatment of household waste, complete the feasibility study for the successful implementation of the sanitary waste landfill and enhance the waste treatment capability of the policy makers and government officials in Cambodia. The main goal of that project was to improve the living conditions of Cambodian people and contribute to mitigating the environmental waste pollution. It will implement for six months.
Please be reminded that until now the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) provided grant aid to Cambodia about US$ 50 million.
