Phnom Penh, March 4, 2010KOICA Provides 250,000 USD to THE MINISTRY OF ENVIRONMENT OF CAMBODIA ON THE FEASIBILITY STUDY ON THE CONSTRUCTION OF THE SANITARY WASTE LANDFILL in Siem Reap
Phnom Penh: The Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) on February 25, 2010 has signed agreement with the Ministry of Environment of Cambodia to provide grant aid on “the Feasibility Study on the Construction of the Sanitary Waste Landfill in Siem Reap”.
Please be reminded that the singing ceremony on the Record of Discussions (RoD) and Terms of Reference (ToR) to implement the project was held at the Department of Environment of Siem Reap province. Mr. Kim Byung-gwan, Resident Representative of KOICA Cambodia Office, Dr. Lohn Heal, Director General of the General Directorate of Technical Affair, Ministry of Environment and Mr. Sang Riha, Deputy Governor of Siem Reap province presided the Ceremony with some KOICA delegation of the Implementation Survey team and other government officials of the Ministry of Environment as well as some officials of the Siem Reap provincial hall.
The main of goal of this project is to improve the living conditions of Cambodian people and contribute to mitigating the environmental waste pollution by constructing a sanitary waste landfill. This Project aims to conduct an inventory survey on the sources, volume of generation, collection and/or treatment of household waste, complete the feasibility study for the successful implementation of the sanitary waste landfill and enhance the waste treatment capability of the policy makers and government officials in Cambodia. It will implement for six months in 2010 at Rom Chek commune, Bantheay Srey district of Siem Reap province.
