KOICA and JICA will hold the Closing Ceremony of Joint Program for the Rehabilitation of Irrigation System and Rural Community Development in Cambodia

According to the Press Release on December 21, 2009, the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) Cambodia Office and the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) would like to announce that they will hold a closing ceremony of the Project “JICA-KOICA Joint Program for the Rehabilitation of Irrigation System and Rural Community Development in the Kingdom of Cambodia” on Wednesday, December 23, 2009 at 10:00 at the Meeting Hall of the Ministry of Water Resources and Meteorology (located at former MRC). Resident Representative of KOICA Cambodia Office Mr. Kim Byung-gwan and Chief Representative of JICA Cambodia Office Mr. Yasujiro SUZUKI will preside the Ceremony.
The main purpose of this ceremony is to present the results and lessons learned on the implementation of the program by Cambodian officials as well as experts of the two countries who participated in the joint program. The program with the total cost of approximately 300,000 U.S dollars co-financed by JICA and KOICA was focused on two sectors: 1st the improvement of water resources infrastructure and capacity building of the farmers for effective water management through trainings and the support to the establishment of Farmer Water Users Community (FWUC); 2nd “Agricultural Farming Development for Income-Generating Crop for Village Rural Community Development” by setting up the program of the training courses entitled “Agricultural Techniques Training for Rural Householder Income Generation” at the Village. The training helped the people in getting additional knowledge and skill in agriculture production and particularly enabled them how to have sustainability in producing and solving to respond, prevent and mitigate disaster in their communities. The joint program has contributed to the physical infrastructure (irrigation) and agriculture development of the Rectangular Strategy and the National Strategic Development Plan (NSDP) of the Royal Government of Cambodia.
Please be reminded that the singing ceremony on the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to implement the JICA-KOICA Joint Program was held in June 23, 2009 at the Cambodia-Japan Cooperation Center (CJCC).
