According to KOICA’s news release, the 2 doctors were dispatched by Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) through Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, and Ministry of Health of Cambodia after being requested by local hospitals.
Those doctors Dr. Bae Sung Uk, specialist of general surgery and Dr. Han Seung Beom, pediatric doctors, will start working voluntarily for Koh Kong and Svay Rieng Referral Hospital respectively on August 10, 2009 after a period of in-country training for better adaptation to local working environment.
The same news release added that the mission of these voluntary doctors is to help Khmer medical officials and doctors to provide medical service to local people, to share experience and knowledge of medical services in Korea, and to initiate for possible improvement and development of the hospitals’ medical infrastructures and/or services in their respective field of expertise, which are parts of the effort of KOICA office in Cambodia to help Cambodia government to move forward health-related Millennium Development Goals.
