The Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister Keat Chhon, Minister of Economy and Finance and JICA representative Kazuhiro Yoneda, signed on Friday three grant agreements for Cambodia development, at the ministry.
Keat Chhon, said after the signing ceremony that in the name of Cambodian government he would like to express his deep thank to the Japanese government and JICA for their generous support Cambodian government and people.
The projects for the implement of National Road N0.1, the project for construction of Marin Aquaculture Development Center in the Kingdom of Cambodia and the project for Rural Drinking Water Supply in Memot district of Kampong Cham.
According to JICA press statement dated July 30 said that the project for improvement of National Road N0. 1 will contribute to the enhancement of the movement of people and goods between Phnom Penh Municipality and Ho Chi Minh City which later can stimulate the socioeconomic activities in Cambodia and the southern growth corridor.
The road section covered by this grant is form the Kokir market to the section near Nirod Pagoda of the National Road N0 1. It is the continuation of the improvement of National Road No. 1 from Neak Leoung to Phnom Penh under the support of Japan´s ODA.
The Project for Construction of Marine Aquaculture Development Center in the Kingdom of Cambodia will support the promotion of the marine aquaculture development of reduces the pressure on the natural fishery resources and outbreak of imported infectious fish disease.
The project will provide the facility and equipment consisting of research and administration building, brood stock maturation building, hatchery and breeding building and aquaculture research equipment. In addition to the research and development function for the marine aquaculture the project also aims at the capacity of the center to produce annually 500,000 healthy fingling.
The Project for Rural Drinking Water Supply in Memot district of Kampong Cham aims to increase the supply rate of safe and stable water supply from 6.5% to 92,7% for 33,075 people in 2015 by providing a safe drinking water supply is very serious. 136 deep wells with hand pumps and the soft component for operation and maintenance enabling the operation and maintenance of the facilities by the resident at the village level will be the basic components of this project.
JICA expected that the three projects will contribute respectively to the development in Cambodian in the priority sectors namely physical infrastructure, enhancement of the agriculture sector (fishery) in the Rectangular Strategy (Phase 2) and the National Strategic Development Plan (NSDP) of the Cambodian government.
