Inaugurate Cambodia-Korea Friendship Building in Kampong Chhnang Referral Hospital

Kampong Chhnang: Cambodia-Korea Friendship Building in Kampong Chhnang referral hospital was officially inaugurated on January 22, 2009, under the presidency of Prof. Mam Bunheng, Minister of the Ministry of Health and H.E. Shin Hyun-suk, Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to the Kingdom of Cambodia.



According to the report of Dr. Tek Saroeun, Director of Kampong Chhnang provincial health department, the two buildings of Cambodia-Korea Friendship Buildings were the grant aids of the Republic of Korea through the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA). These two buildings were made of concrete; first building was 22 meters length and 17 meters width. This first building is used for Emergency Center. The second building was 22 meters length and 12 meter width. This second building is used for TB-HIV/AIDS patient treatment. Those two building were officially celebrated the ground breaking ceremony on September 20, 2007 which was built by Heng Prime Company. Currently, those two buildings were completely finished.



Dr. Chang Hyun-sik, Vice President of the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) has informed that these new buildings will contribute to the Cambodian government’s efforts to achieve the Cambodia Millennium Goals (CMDGs) by reducing people’s mortality rate and serving as the Cambodian people’s main treatment center in Kampong Chhnang province.



Dr. Chang Hyun-sik, also went on to say that since the early 1990s, KOICA has supported many projects in Cambodia in the areas of water resources management, agricultural development, construction of the infrastructure and health sector. Among those projects, rehabilitation and modernization of hospitals is one of the most valuable projects because the improvement of people’s health has the high priority in Cambodia.



Mr. Touch Marim, Kampong Chhnang provincial governor, said that health sector is the prioritized sector for social development.



H.E. Shin Hyun-suk, Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to Cambodia has stated that this project was the result of the collaborative efforts between the Korean Government and the Ministry of Health of the Kingdom of Cambodia. The main objective of the project was to improve medical and health services in Cambodia. This project also aims to strengthen the health facility within the referral hospital compound of Kampong Chhnang province and strengthen the long friendship between both countries, Cambodia-Korea.



In that opportunity, H.E. Prof. Mam Bunheng, Minister of the Ministry of Health said that the two new buildings including the valuable medical equipments were very useful for Cambodian people, especially for Kampong Chhnang people who are poor. Moreover, these buildings are the new achievement timely response to the strategy plan of the Ministry of Health.



H.E. Prof. Mam Bunheng also expressed his thanks to the government and Korean people who provided these two nice buildings to the Cambodian people.
