PHNOM PENH —
The United States on Monday provided Cambodia with $34.3 million to support health and education, bringing its aid for Cambodia’s health and education programs since 2002 to nearly $200 million. Hor Namhong, deputy prime minister and minister of foreign affairs and international cooperation, and Erin Soto, USAID mission director, signed aid documents in a ceremony in Phnom Penh on Monday with Prime Minister Hun Sen in attendance.
Of the total grants, some $32.2 million will be used to help reduce the transmission and impact of HIV/AIDS, prevent and control major infectious diseases such as tuberculosis, fight avian influenza and improve maternal, reproductive, and children’s health as well as strengthen Cambodian public-health systems, including the technical skills of healthcare workers.
