More Korea Overseas Volunteers Arrived in Cambodia

Phnom Penh: 14 Korea Overseas Volunteers, 7 males and 7 females, have been dispatching to work in Cambodia. 9 of the 14 volunteers have already arrived in Cambodia on May 20, 2008 and other 5 will arrive on May 26, 2008. They will play role as human resource assistants to requesting institutions of the government of Cambodia for 2 years from 2008 to 2010.










According the Press Release of the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) announced that, for the year of 2008, this is the first group of KOVs who are sent to work in different sector like health, arts, Korean language education, tourism, sport, electronic and computer. The host organizations of the volunteers are Calmette Hospital and Institute of Foreign Language in Phnom Penh, primary school in Kratie and Pursat, provincial teacher training center in Kampong Cham and Siem Reap, National University of Management in Battambang, referral hospital in Kampong Chhnang, Provincial Teacher Training in Kampong Cham and Siem Reap.









Korea Overseas Volunteers (KOVs) is a program of the government of The Republic of Korean, through which Korean nationals have been sending to partner countries to share expertise, knowledge, and experience in various sectors in order to make practical contributions to their socio-economic development. Since the start of KOVs program in Cambodia in 2003 144 KOVs, including these 14 volunteer, were dispatched to several government institutions in such field as education, health, rural development, information & communication technology, arts, agriculture, tourism so on and so forth.









With their skills and mission, the 14 volunteers as well as the existing volunteers who are working actively in Cambodia are playing role as the important catalysts who are contributing to Korea's grant aid program and assistances for socio-economic development in Cambodia through encouraging the exchange of human resources and strengthening the impact of Korea's foreign aid, as well as enhancing mutual understanding between the two countries.
