Republic of Korea dispatches another 5
volunteers to work in Cambodia upon the request from Cambodia and the
effectiveness of Korea Oversea Volunteer-KOV program. The 5 volunteers
will fulfill their humanitarian mission for 2 years under facilitation
of KOV Program of Korea International Cooperation Agency-KOICA Cambodia
Office. They arrive in Phnom Penh International Airport at nigh of 20th Dec 2013. This is the 42nd of KOV team since Cambodia and Korea makes a conclusion of agreement on this program in 2003.
Mr. Hong Soon Seung, KOV Program Manager
said that This team consists of 5 volunteers and they will be
officially dispatched to work in 5 different host organizations of
Cambodian government in 4 target areas such: Phnom Penh, Kampot,
Batambang, and Pailen. They will contribute their skill and experience
such Art education, Korean Education, Science Education, Social Welfare
and Librarian.
He adds that from now on, they will
participate in Local Adjustment Training Program in Phnom Penh for 2
months which included conducting On the Job Training and doing
home stay with local people. This program focuses on intensive Khmer
language training, attaining necessary information on Cambodian’s life,
and to understand socioeconomic, cultural and political situation in
Cambodia. This will help them to easily adapt to their working
environment in the localities during their mission.
He emphasizes that KOV Program is a
humanitarian program of Republic of Korea that provides technical
assistance of Korea through dispatching Korean national volunteer to 46
partner countries all over the world to share expertise, knowledge and
experience to make practical contributions for socioeconomic
development. This program provides not only human resources but also
fulfills significant needs of host organization following conduct need
assessment of volunteer. Additionally, all KOVs in Cambodia create a
humanitarian team named Soksabay to directly deliver their supports such
as health treatment, education and entertainment to children and people
in rural area of Cambodia.
Remarkably, since 2003 more than 300
KOVs are dispatched through KOICA to work in significant fields such as
Education, Health Care, and Rural Development and they achieved many
remarkable outcomes and impacts. Therefore, with their skills and
mission, KOICA believes that these 5 volunteers as well as the existing
67 volunteers who are actively working in Cambodia are playing important
role catalysts contributing to Korea’s grant aid program and assistance
for socioeconomic development as well as enhancing mutual
understanding between the two countries, Cambodia- Korea.
