Phnom Penh (KOICA, June 3, 2013):
The government of South Korea has agreed to provide its ODA Grant Aid
of up to seventeen million one hundred thousand US dollars (US$ 17,
100,000) to the Royal Government of Cambodia for the purpose of
contributing to the implementation of the three (3) projects.
Those
three (3) projects were a) Project for Improving the Functions of the
Cambodia-Korea Friendship Building at the National Pediatric Hospital;
(b) Project for the Establishment of the Civil Aviation Training Center
(CATC) in Cambodia; and (c) Project for Developing Technical Education
at Upper Secondary Level.
The Framework Arrangement on Grant Aid for the year 2013 was signed by H.E. Mr. Long Visalo, Secretary of State of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, and H.E. Mr. Kim Han Soo,
Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Korea
to Kingdom of Cambodia, on Monday, June 03, 2013 at 09:00 am at the
Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation.
“Project
for Improving the Functions of the Cambodia-Korea Friendship Building at
the National Pediatric Hospital” was designed (1) to enhance the NICU
(Neonatal Intensive Care Unit) functions at Cambodia-Korea Friendship
Building in alignment with HSP2 of the Royal Government of Cambodia on
improving of Healthcare Service Delivery, (2) to improve the capacity of
medical services in National Pediatric Hospital by renovating and
expanding Cambodia-Korea Friendship Building and through the training of
doctors and nurses, and (3) to strengthen the public health sector of
Cambodia by sharing knowledge and practices from Korean experts..
Regarding
the objectives of “Project for the Establishment of the Civil Aviation
Training Center (CATC) in Cambodia” were (1) to contribute to the
sustainable socioeconomic development of the Royal Government of
Cambodia through the establishment of the Civil Aviation Training Center
and related capacity building programs to ensure safe, secure,
efficient, quality and cost-effective international and domestic air
transportation services in keeping with international standards, (2) to
help improve the quality and quantity of human resources and
institutional capabilities for the effective management of Civil
Aviation Sector in the Kingdom of Cambodia.
While the
objective of “Project for Developing Technical Education at Upper
Secondary Level” was aimed at introducing technical education at upper
secondary level education in Cambodia by establishing a master plan with
detailed action plans. The project will ultimately contribute to
building young skilled male and female workforce that meets local labor
market needs. It will also help young population find better employment
opportunities by providing them with suitable skills.
Please be
reminded that the annual volume of KOICA’s grant aid to Cambodia has
steadily increased, surpassing 20 million US dollars in 2013. KOICA’s
grant aid performance to Cambodia would be approximately 100 million USD
from 1991 up to last year, providing 34 projects to Cambodia covering 4
sectoral priorities including Education, Health, Infrastructure, and
Agriculture & Rural Development. Furthermore, KOICA has strengthened
focused efforts to work together for the socio-economic development of
Cambodia in harmony with its rectangular strategy and NSDP for the
enhancement of Development Effectiveness. /End/
