Phnom Penh: The US has
provided the budget over 2 million USD for school building and health center so
as to reduce over-crowded classrooms schools and decrease the infant mortality
rate in Cambodia. In February, the US Embassy organized seven ground breaking
ceremonies for schools and health centers across Cambodia approximately worth over
2 million USD. These high schools, primary schools, and health centers
are being built in Kampung Chnnang, Kampung Speu, Siem Reap, Banteay Meanchey,
and Pursat with the cooperation of the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport
and the Ministry of Health.
As the
population increases throughout Cambodia, people face obstacles to find large
enough schools and health centers. The goal of these new schools is to
reduce over-crowded classrooms, which will help students focus on their
education. By building and improving health centers throughout the
country, the United States aims to help decrease the infant mortality rate and
increase Cambodian’s access to medical care. These projects are great
investments in the youth and future of Cambodia. In the last five years, this
program funded through the US Pacific Command which has provided infrastructure
over 15 million USD to the people of Cambodia. These projects show the
contributions of the United States to provide significant infrastructure to the
people of Cambodia. (Rasmei Kampuchea 17-18 March)
