Siem Reap: The ceremony for the completion of
Cambodia-Korea Friendship Road (or Korean Ring Road Construction Phase II) was
held in Banteay Srey High School, Banteay Srey District, Siem Reap Province on
15th December 2012 under the great honor participating of H.E. Dr. Sok An, Deputy
Prime Minister,Minister in charge of the Office of the Council of
Ministers and the President of APSARA Authority and H.E. Park Dae Won,
President of Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA).
The Cambodia-Korea Friendship Road
(or Korean Ring Road Construction Phase II) located in the north of Angkor Area
and connects to former Fourth Military Regional Headquarter located located
in Ta Koh village, Bra Dak commune, Banteay Srey district with of 20.5 km
length and 8m width, included 38 meters of concrete bridge, 5 pipes and 2 weigh
stations. The construction of this ring road started from 2010 and completed in
the end of 2012 with total budget of 11.780.000 USD, included 11.500.000 USD of
grand aid from the government of Republic of Korea and 280.000 USD of counterpart
budget of APSARA Authority.
The main purpose of the Korean Ring Road is to disperse
heavy truck traffic from nearby temples area and to protect Khmer cultural
heritage from environment pollution. The completion of this ring road will
provide effective result to the people, not only to make the traffic and
transportation in the area easier, also to reduce the traffic jam for tourists
to visit the temples.
