AKP Phnom Penh, September 08, 2012 –
The Government of Japan has provided a total of ¥67,988,403
(approximately US$839,363) to Japan Mine Action Service (JMAS) for the
Improving Mine Clearance in Battambang province.
The Grant Contract was signed here on Sept. 6 at the Embassy of Japan
by H.E. Kuroki Masafumi, Ambassador of Japan to Cambodia and Mr.
Tanigawa Yasuyuki, JMAS Resident Representative.
Through this humanitarian assistance, JMAS will cooperate with
Cambodian Mine Action Center (CMAC) to implement the Improving Mine
Clearance Project for 2012 in Treng commune of Rattanak Mondul district,
the most mine-affected area in Battambang province, said Mr. Tanigawa
Yasuyuki.
H.E. Kuroki Masafumi stressed on the efforts of the Royal Government
of Cambodia and the assistance, both financial and technical, from the
international community including Japan for mine-clearance activities in
Cambodia.
Since 1992, the Government of Japan has extended some US$145 million
for mine clearance in Cambodia besides its technical cooperation with
CMAC and its donation in mine clearance machines to the country.
