Phnom Penh: Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) and the Ministry of Health launched a signing ceremony on Record of Discussion for the project for Strengthening Capacity of Batheay Referral Hospital in Batheay District, Kampong Cham Province on Friday at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation with the total budget of 3.5 million USD.

The Record of Discussion was signed by H.E. Dr. MAM Bunheng, Minister of the Ministry of Health, and Dr. Shin Eui-Cheol, Representative of KOICA Cambodia Office with the honorable participation of H.E. Chang Ho-jin, Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to the Kingdom of Cambodia and H.E. Deputy Prime Minister HOR Namhong, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation.

The objective of this project is to improve the capacity of medical services in Batheay Referral Hospital through the establishment of a mother and child health center and the training of doctors and nurses, and to strengthen the public health sector of Cambodia by applying Korean expertise and practices.

During 4 years from 2011~2014, this project will improve the infrastructure of Batheay Referral Hospital by providing the hospital with advanced equipment, better sanitation and hygiene. Moreover, the capacity of hospital staff will be enhanced through local and invitational training opportunities. In the long term, the project will contribute to reducing infant mortality rates and improving maternal and child health in the region.

Dr. OR Vandine, Director of International Relation Department, MOH said that MOH as well as the people of Batheay district are very happy that Korean government provides aid through Korea International Cooperation Agency, KOICA in the construction Batheay
Referral Hospital in order to improve and strengthen capacity of the hospital for providing better medical service to local people.

Dr. Vandine added that KOICA helps to construct a new two-floor building in this hospital with 30 ms wide and 40 ms length with total budget of 3.5 million US$. Moreover, KOICA will rehabilitate the old buildings in the hospital as well. Then, there is a dispatching of experts from Korea to strengthen Batheay Referral Hospital, and the training course in Korea and Cambodia.

Previously, MOH is lack of budget in rehabilitating this hospital, that’s why, Cambodia make good cooperation with the Republic of Korea in order to improve the capacity of the hospital for providing better medical service such as surgery, emergency, obstetrics, gynecology, pediatric disease, tuberculosis, and other infectious diseases. This project will contribute to reducing infant mortality rate and improving maternal and child healthcare in the region.

Phnom Penh: Korea International Cooperation Agency, (KOICA) provided grant aid 3.5 million US$ for the development Batheay Referral Hospital, Batheay District, Kampong Cham Province.

This agreement was signed between Dr. MAM Bunheng, Minister of the Ministry of Health and Dr. Shin Eui-Cheol, Representative of KOICA Cambodia Office, under the presidency of H.E. Deputy Prime Minister HOR Namhong, Minister of Foreign Affairs & Int’l Cooperation in June 10, 2011.

According to KOICA Press Release revealed that the purpose of this aid is to construct hospital building, provide medical equipment, and provide training course to the medical staff in order to strengthen the hospital capacity by applying Korean expertise and practices for reducing infant mortality rates and improving maternal and child health in Cambodia.

Dr. MAM Bunheng, Minister of Health said in June 10, that 3.5 Million US$ of KOICA grant aid will be used for the establishment of Batheay Referral Hospital, equipment providing, and human resources development in the field of health.

Dr. MAM Bunheng added that Batheay Referral Hospital is one of the potential locations in providing health service to the local people because it is located between Kampong Cham and Kandal Province.
Be noticed that, through KOICA, Korean Government assisted to develop health sector such as human resources training, building construction, and advanced equipment providing at the National Pediatric Hospital, Korea-Cambodia Friendship Hospital in Kampong Chhnanag, and other physical infrastructures in Siem Reap Province.

Phnom Penh: The Republic of Korea through Korea International Cooperation Agency, (KOICA) provided grant aid 3.5 million US$ for the construction of new building and rehabilitate of old buildings in Batheay Referral Hospital, Batheay District.

This agreement was signed by Dr. MAM Bunheng, Minister of the Ministry of Health and Dr. Shin Eui-Cheol, Representative of KOICA Cambodia Office, under the presidency of H.E. Deputy Prime Minister HOR Namhong, Minister of Foreign Affairs & Int’l Cooperation and H.E. Chang Ho-Jin, Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to the Kingdom of Cambodia in June 10, 2011 at the office of MFA.IC.

Dr. OR Vandine, Director of International Cooperation Department of MOH informs reporters after the signing ceremony that the grant aid of 3.5 Million US$ aimed at strengthening Batheay Referral Hospital in Kampong Cham province with capacity building in providing healthcare service to the local people. This aid included the construction of a new two-floor hospital building with 30 ms wide and 40 ms length, the rehabilitation of old buildings, dividing such as Emergency, Obstetrics, Gynecology, and General Surgery Department. In addition, Korean side agreed with MOH in strengthening capacity building of Batheay Referral Hospital’s medical staff, and dispatching Korean experts to enhance the hospital as well.

Dr. MAM Bunheng, Minister of Health deeply thanks to the government of the Republic of Korea and people, that always pay attention in providing grant aid for heightening healthcare of Cambodian people. This grant aid contributed to developing Cambodia in every sector.

According to the Press Release of Korean International Cooperation Agency revealed that the purpose of this aid is to construct the hospital building, equipments supplies and improve the capacity of hospital staff by applying Korean medical skill in order to reducing infant and maternal mortality rates in Cambodia. June 2011.

KOICA’s aid of 3.5 million US$ is for establishment of Batheay Referral Hospital, equipments and training the human resources in the field of Health, said the Minister of Health on 10th Batheay Referral hospital is a potential location in providing healthcare service for local people because it is located in between Kampong Cham and Kandal province, he added.
