AKP Phnom Penh, May 28, 2014 –
Cambodia and Japan signed here this morning the Exchange of Notes and Record of Discussions on the extension of Grand Aid up to 295 million Yen (some US$2.85 million) to the Royal Government of Cambodia for the purpose of contributing to the implementation of the “Japanese Development Scholarship” Project.
The documents were inked by H.E. Hor Namhong, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, and Japanese Ambassador to Cambodia H.E. Yuji Kumamaru.
Under these freshly-signed documents, 24 of new scholarship fellows will study in Japan for two years, said H.E. Yuji Kumamaru.
The “Japanese Development Scholarship” is awarded mainly to the young and capable government officials who are expected to contribute to the economic and social development of Cambodia after their return.
Japan has continuously provided this scholarship grant since the year 2000. Since then a total of some 4.28 billion Yen (some US$42.82 million) has been extended for supporting 14 batches of 320 Cambodian fellow students to study in Japan.
